New Members in the Enviro Club

Today we had new members join the Enviro Club. Skye, Raeha, Wayne and Brayden had their first session with the club today. We are looking forward to seeing them play a big part in the club for the next two years at Lakeview School.

Marilyn took us on a tour of the Lansdowne Nursery this afternoon. We are looking forward to getting back to the nursery to continue on with the learning we all did in 2009.

Planting Again

Last week we started again with some planting in the school garden. Hopefully the plants weren't left out in the sun without water for too long! We still have more to put in seedlings to get in, and are hoping to have this done before our next session with Marilyn.

Marilyn and Victoria join us again

Today Marilyn and Victoria joined us again for a session in the school garden. With a number of other things taking place at school on Tuesday afternoon, we were left with only Aidan and Ashley doing all of the hard work with weeding and watering.

This week we will be looking to recruit new members to the club, with some children from the Senior Middle Syndicate included so that experience and knowledge is built up over 3-4 years at Lakeview School.

Starting Over in 2010

Now that we have started back at school for the 2010 school year it is time to get up and running with the school garden again. Members of the Enviro Club from 2009, Ashleigh, Annie and Aidan, plus a new member, Hayley, spent the afternoon weeding the vegetable garden to prepare it for new planting.

We are looking forward to producing the results that were achieved last year. Many of our families benefited from the produce from last year's harvest.

The potatoes that we planted at the end of last year are looking good. These should be ready in a few weeks time.

Remember to check this blog on a regular basis to follow the progress of the Enviro Club. We are looking forward to bringing in other students from across the school to help out.

The Final Harvest

Today Melissa and Alex harvested the final batch of vegetables for the year from the school garden. They then distributed the harvest to several of our school families.

The school garden has been a huge success in 2009. The Enviro Club is looking forward to getting back into it in 2010.

Celebrating Our Success

The Enviro Club celebrated their success with the school garden this afternoon with lunch at Lansdowne Nursery. Marilyn showed the group how to make a pie using ingredients from the school garden.

A huge thank you to Marilyn for all of her support this year. We are very lucky to have someone in our community who is so supportive of Lakeview School. Thank you also to Victoria from the Wairarapa DHB for her ideas and support with the school garden. We couldn't have achieved the success that we have had without Marilyn and Victoria. We are looking forward to having both back to help out in 2010.

We will do our best to keep the garden going over the school holidays and look forward to geeting back into it again next year.

The Enviro Club harvested the first load of vegetable produce from the school vegetable garden this afternoon. Vegetables have been given to school families. We hope that those that got them enjoy the fruits of the Enviro Club's work!

A huge thank you to Victoria (from the Wairarapa DHB) and Marilyn (from Lansdowne Nursery) for their input and support in the journey we have had in creating and harvesting the school garden. We couldn't have done it without them!

We also spent time planting our first potato crop. We are looking forward to having the same success with these that we have had with our first vegetable harvest.
